The EasyStand Standing Frame
The EasyStand standing frame, manufactured by Altimate Medical, Inc., is the only active stander standing frame on the market. Unlike passive standing frames, or mobile standers, which are self-propelled, the EasyStand standing frame creates reciprocal arm and leg movements while standing. It is also unlike a Levo standing chair, since an EasyStand standing frame weighs less, and is less cumbersome. It works by transferring the user from the wheelchair to the seat of the EasyStand standing frame. The kneepad and supports are positioned and a pump actuator moves the user to a desired standing position. Best of all, no tools are required for adjusting!
How did the EasyStand standing frame come about?
Alan Tholkes, a C6-7 quadriplegic and former CEO of Altimate Medical, Inc., invented the EasyStand standing frame. He needed a stander to suit his needs, since there was none available on the market. Altimate Medical. Inc. has been selling the EasyStand standing frame since 1989. Since then, EasyStand standing frames for children have also been introduced.
Who needs an EasyStand standing frame, and when would one use it?
The EasyStand standing frame was developed for individuals between 5 feet and 6 feet 5 inches tall, and can handle weight up to 280 pounds. Individuals with lower joint contractures, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, brain damage, spina bifida, paralysis from stroke, and almost any limited mobility condition can find great use in the EasyStand standing frame. It has been chosen by rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, schools, and nursing homes, proving time and time again that the EasyStand standing frame is a reliable stander.
